FlackCheck.org’s Weekly Update March 16, 2012

Today, we debut our new “Stinkweeds and Orchids: Monitoring the News Media” page. To exemplify the problem addressed by the page, we’ve created a piece showing the attacks on Tom Campbell that leaked through in media free play of Carly Fiorina’s “Demon Sheep” web video in 2010.

This week, we’ve also posted pieces on the Keystone pipeline job numbers in a Republican ad and on Obama adviser David Axelrod’s claim that Democratic Party nominee Barack Obama ran a “positive” 2008 primary campaign.

On the “Stations: Stand By Your Ad” front, we’ve posted questions for CBS CEO Les Moonves and alerts to Missouri and Illinois station managers about inaccurate super PAC ads on air in those states.

The McClellan campaign’s anonymous advisers continue their relentless campaign to unseat Abraham Lincoln. This week’s ad alleges that the 16th president is a tax and spend socialist.

Please encourage your friends, colleagues and passersby to email their local broadcast stations urging them to insist on the accuracy of third party political ads they choose to air.
